Developer, Builder and Craftsman

Builder and developer Riley Construction Ltd. has been involved in Vancouver Island real estate development and management for more than 20 years. Owned and managed by Derek Riley, the company has earned an enviable reputation for quality, integrity, innovation and value. Since 1984, Derek and his highly motivated team of professional managers have developed more than 300 residential homes ranging from single-family residences, townhouses and low-rise apartments.

“Our vision is that Tanglewood become a multi-generational vacation retreat where young children can learn the joy of beachfront living along with their parents and grandparents. Then, when they have children of their own, they can share that knowledge with the generations that follow.”

Architect

Reflecting its growing international reputation, the firm of Helliwell & Smith Blue Sky Architecture, was selected to build Tanglewood.  Helliwell & Smith Blue Sky Architecture House Design was showcased in an Australian-published coffee-table book.  Their work is also part of a national Canadian tour entitled Living Spaces.

Their work incorporates a harmony with nature and a flair for style. Since founding the firm in 1975, Bo Helliwell and Kim Smith have created a variety of superbly designed custom homes, hotels, vacation residences and multi-family projects.

“Our vision was to create a community where each home has a charm within itself,” Kim says. “Clustering the homes gives each building more intimacy and individual identity.

Interior Design

Using Tanglewood’s Beach and forested setting as her inspiration, Juli Hodgeson created tasteful interiors that combine elegant simplicity and an eye for detail. Juli came up with many contemporary twists on classic traditions, such as a double-sided, corner fireplace with window box seat, an Ensuite accented with old world subway tile and urban-savvy pot drawers tucked into cabinetry boasting a distinctly heritage styling.

“Interior design must be kept simple, yet beautiful, with a sense of spaciousness and flow. A Vacation home is a place where you can be casual, where you can relax,” says Juli, who has worked with Derek Riley many times over her 20-year career.

The Tanglewood development began building in the early 1990’s with three-storey townhouses.  The Townhomes can comfortably accommodate 6 – 8 guests.  The Townhomes are located on the beach or across the driveway from the path to the beach.   The home’s amenities include: full spacious kitchen (including dishwasher), washer and dryer, some with garage, barbeque, two balconies, and two entrances. On the ground floor is the garage, with laundry area, the lower entrance, as well as a bedroom with a queen-size bed.  On the second (main) floor, is the open-concept kitchen, dining area, living room (DVD player, stereo, cable, and Gas fireplace), second entrance, one of the balconies (with barbeque), 2 Bath Rooms.
